What it is

A living descent into hell, on your desktop

The Six Gates of Doom is a hand-built DOOM-style world that runs as a true animated wallpaper behind your icons. In attract mode it marches your marine down through six gates of hell, the raycaster engine drawing twisting corridors, demons and gore in glorious retro pixels. Press Ctrl+Alt+P and it becomes a playable first-person shooter — strafe, blast and survive your way through the same six gates, with the number keys 1–6 to jump straight to any one of them. It's far more than a static wallpaper or a looping video: it's a retro FPS live wallpaper for Windows you can actually play.

Six gates

Where the descent takes you

Gate 1

The Ashen Foundry

Rivers of molten iron split forge halls where furnace-hearted demons stoke the fires of the first gate.

Gate 2

The Mire of Teeth

Wade the rot and drool of a fanged bog where mosquitoes the size of horses hunt you between the reeds.

Gate 3

The Vaults of Gravity

A honeycomb where the floor becomes the walls — weave the lattice of cells and mind the bottomless gaps.

Gate 4

The Crimson Cathedral

Bone towers and blood-glass windows loom over the nave, where a pompous cardinal awaits your trespass.

Gate 5

The Endless Siege

Push past rusted tanks and mass graves across an open bailey while winged horrors circle overhead.

Gate 6

The Throne of Oblivion

A throne carved from the void — the final boss waits at the bottom of the descent for the last stand.

Questions

Good to know

Is The Six Gates of Doom a live wallpaper or a game?
Both. It runs as an animated DOOM-style live wallpaper behind your desktop icons, descending through its six gates of hell on its own. Press Ctrl+Alt+P and it becomes a playable retro first-person shooter; press again to hand it back to the demo.
Which versions of Windows does it support?
The Six Gates of Doom runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11 through the free SamuelWize Wallpapers app, with multi-monitor support so it can run on one screen while another shows a different pack.
How much does it cost?
A one-time £2.99 through Lemon Squeezy. You get a license key by email that unlocks the pack on up to 5 devices — no subscription, no expiry.
Will it slow down my PC?
It uses a lightweight raycaster engine, is frame-capped to stay light on the GPU, and automatically pauses when you open a fullscreen app or game, so it never competes with what you're actually doing.
