Pixel Souls — a soulslike wallpaper that remembers every death
Death is not the end — it is the map. SamuelWize wakes as the Ashen Knight in a fallen kingdom with no memory and a shattered blade, battling through six kingdoms of ash. Every death permanently reshapes the world, and it saves between sessions — so your desktop slowly becomes a one-of-a-kind kingdom built from every life that came before. For Windows 10 & 11, multi-monitor ready.
Step in any time to take the knight — idle to hand him back

A desktop the world writes on
Pixel Souls is a hand-built 16-bit soulslike that runs as a true animated wallpaper behind your icons. The Ashen Knight battles on his own, falls to brutal bosses, and rises again — but nothing resets. Safe lands corrupt, ruins are restored, and each spot where the knight dies leaves a faint glowing soul-echo that stays forever. Bosses you've died to grow scarred and fight differently. The world remembers between sessions, so no two desktops end up alike. Step in any time to take control and free-roam the knight yourself; go idle and the wallpaper carries on without you.
Where the knight falls — and rises
The Ember Keep
Red skies over a burning fortress — the first blade tests of the fallen kingdom.
The Sunken Bailey
A drowned gold courtyard where the water keeps what the kingdom lost.
The Mossgrave
Green overgrowth swallowing the graves — home of the Rooted King.
The Frostmarch
A blue-white march through the frozen dead, where echoes glow brightest in the snow.
The Hollow Spire
A violet tower of the Hexbound Thing — the climb that has ended a thousand lives.
The Dawn Sanctum
The pale end of the pilgrimage, where the knight's memory — and the truth — waits.
Not a picture. A world.
Every death is permanent
Deaths leave soul-echoes that never fade, lands corrupt and heal, and scarred bosses change how they fight. Your desktop becomes a record of every run.
It saves between sessions
Shut the PC down, come back tomorrow — the kingdom is exactly as your deaths left it, still slowly being rewritten.
Runs behind your icons
A true animated wallpaper — frame-capped, quiet in the background, photosensitivity-graded with a full safe mode, and it pauses for fullscreen games.
